Trifling

Triflings are small winged folk standing between 8 to 14(2d4 +6) inches tall, weighing 1 to 2 pounds, and have pointed ears and high-toned voices. Their wings resemble those of a dragonfly. Skin colors vary but most are earth tones (browns, greens, and black) unlike their wings and hair that are of most any color. Clothing is usually light in weight and worn sparingly if at all.

Triflings are by their very nature curious. Triflings have a natural tendency to get into trouble. Triflings live to be about 500 years old but most die sooner due to their natural curiosity. Unlike most races, age does not affect Triflings. As they grow older, they do not suffer the physical penalties like the other races yet at the same time, they do not gain in wisdom either. It is rare for a Trifling to die of "old age", but when age does claim the life of a Trifling, The Trifling simply stops. There are no complications, the Trifling just stops (dies).

Triflings, when born, are raised by their entire. Clans can be as small as two to as many as the current environment can support. Triflings do not believe in afterlife so most do not pay homage to any of the deities. This has resulted in a lack of priests among the race. However, should one be so lucky to find a Trifling priest, it is safe to say that the god would be one of jokes and lightheartedness. (Note: Triflings are not restricted to which god they worship if the player wants to play a priest.)

Triflings are more at home in the air than on the ground. While in the air, Triflings are quick and agile. Although they are not slow on the ground, Triflings are easy targets for such creatures as cats, snakes, birds of prey, etc.

Triflings can live in almost any temperate environment. The dislike the heat and cold since both can adversely effect their wings. Although they can live anywhere, most Trifling clans are found in deep swamps or woods.

The wings of a Trifling do not grow back. If plucked off or destroyed (i.e. fire, acid, etc.), the Trifling is doomed to walk unless magically aided or through the use of regeneration. (If a saving throw fails that results in further saves for clothing and items, the Trifling is allowed to make a second saving throw for its wings with the same bonuses as the first. Failure means the Trifling's wings are destroyed. Snakes or other critters kill most Triflings who lose their wings.

Triflings inherit a tendency toward chaos from their very nature. Because of their curiosity, Triflings tend toward neutrality and on rare occasions even good. To the historians of Ephertain no known evil Trifling has even been recorded.
