World of Ki'larn
K'MardenTimes were good, K'Marden rested from his mighty travels, he rested and drank ambrosia and ate fruits from the trees. The men were pleased to have such a divine presence in their midst. They all knew how pleased the god of far seeing was. They offered him many gifts and the god, in these days of leisure taught the men many things about the world around them. He taught the men the ways of the fish of the Loch, and how to track the beasts of the forests, and to use the thrown spear quite cunningly to fell the wild things. The men never forgot, however, in the backs of their minds, about the terrible beast that lived up high on Mt. Peplos, the demon-beast Derik-Maire. One day, while K'Marden was strolling through the fields and hills of the vale, he stopped to rest at the foot of the black mountain Peplos. He quenched his thirst from the water which sprang form the depths of Mother Faum, and quick-witted K'Marden lay down to rest. It was only after K'Marden was in deep slumber that the beast Derik-Maire slithered greasily down the slopes of his black haven to spy upon the god. While the god was asleep he bound the god in chains of adamantine and had him carried up to the summit of his rocky home. When K'Marden awoke he saw that the foul beast, hated by men and gods both, had imprisoned him deep within his moldering lair. The god was angry, but only at himself. Mighty K'Marden was gifted by his father Rem-Rar-Tor with the gift of prophesy, and it was his ability to see into the future. K'Marden knew that he was destined for this fate, but that made the act no more palatable. The great beast slavered over his prey, gloating at his prowess in capturing the god. "Drake, you had best free me now," K'Marden was told to have said, "Free me now and depart with your life. If you refuse, I fail to take responsibility for the ramifications." The foul monster laughed further at this. His flabby jowls waved like rows of grain moving in the wind. His great girth shook the ground around them as he chortled and wheezed his delight. "I go now, Far-seer, I go now to gather more fuel for my fire which I will use to roast your screaming corpse. The demons of the Underworld will rejoice as I make an offering to them with your heavenly bones and fatty parts." With that, the black animal wheezed out to do as he said. K'Marden only smiled. He waited until the beast was out of earshot and he called to his blood brothers, companions in war, the mighty twins Fildredd and R'fgnar. These two dwarven lords were far to the north, forging the very mountain range great K'Marden was entrapped in now. The two brothers heard the bright fortune-tellers call and came down from fiery Mount Leartian. They came to K'Marden's aid with their great hammer P'Gortian and sweeping axe Reaver. The brothers hurried to K'Marden's side and started to free him, but he bade them stop, and laid plans for the undoing of the foul daemon. When Derik-maire came slithering back to his deep cave he leered over at the Lord of Minstrels, Creator of Song, and drooled happily. K'Marden coolly returned his leer with a smile, and asked again, "Pitiful Wyrm, free me now before you force my hand, and you may still live a long, but dreary existence here in this sticking pit." This only served to enrage the demon and he cast his timber in the hearth-fire and made to pick up Far-seer. Just as the beast was about to toss the great lord into the hellish flames, the twins Fildredd and R'fgnar sprang to action. They had cleverly disguised themselves as hearthstones, as gods are able to do such things, and Fildredd brought down the earth-heart hammer and R'fgnar lashed out with the cleaver, Reaper, taking evil Derik-maire by surprise. As the beast dropped Bright K'Marden, and gasped, stunned, at the unexpected arrival of two more gods, despite their small stature, K'Marden then shoved the wyrm into the flames, thusly destroying him. K'Marden was not done with bleak Mt. Peplos, no. His capture there did not sour his love for the lands surrounding. He asked one more favor of the twin forgers before they returned to their crafting. Together the three gods changed the aspect of the fearsome mountain, making it a more pleasant and serene place. Cast out were all the black aspects that darkened the realm, and the three gods constructed a shining temple of worship at the very spot Bright K'Marden was captured. The great lord decreed to the men of the village that this would be a special place to worship, for K'Marden established an order of gifted humans devoted to him there. These priests would become the mouthpieces for the god of prophecy in the world, and Mt. Peplos would be their home. They would be both boon and bane to mankind, meeting out the words and insights of the gods forever after. And that is how the great god K'Marden established his Order of the Oracles at the foot of shining Mt. Peplos. Respectfully, |
