AdventuresThe Story of TerkSome three hundred years ago, a stranger by the name of Terk wandered upon the village of Corafer. Cautious of the stranger whom had come to their village, the villagers greeted Terk with smiling faces, a hot dinner, and a warm place to sleep. Winter came early that year. The very night that Terk came to town, the heavens let lose the worse snowstorm anyone in the village had ever seen. Three feet of snow fell upon the village and surrounding area. Crops were ruined and most of the livestock froze - Corafer was in for a harsh winter. It was not just the village that felt the effects of the early winter. The scavengers of the land were also having a hard time. Worse hit was the Orcish clan of the Black Tooth. Numbering three hundred strong, the clans stockpiles were quickly depleted and soon the Clans attention tuned toward the village of Corafer. The attack came in the middle of the night during a heavy snowstorm. Somewhat of a blessing by hampering the Clans movement, the storm also hampered communication between the villagers. Caught by surprised, nearly a third of the villagers were killed before the village even knew what was happening. Had it not been for Terk, more, if not all, would have perished. Those who lived told the story of how it was Terk who had saved them. They said his sword blazed with a red glow from the blood of the orcs he felled. Other said that when pressed, he would tear the very hearts from the foul beasts. The one thing that all the stories do say is that Terk sent the Black Tooths fleeing, terrified, from the village and into the stormy night. Happy with the villagers and the fact that they had made him a local hero, Terk decided to stay and Make Corafer his home. That spring and each spring thereafter, the villages celebrated the festival of Terk. Terk finally married but had no heirs. His wife died early from a mysterious illness. Rumors began to circulate throughout the village and several days later Terk was found dead; ran through by his own sword. Some said Terk took his own life; others say the ghost of his wife killed him. In the end, the village elders entombed Terks body out of respect for the hero. The yearly festivals were canceled and Terk became nothing more than a story told most nights at the Bears Head Tavern. |
