Happy Birthday Robot

I was fortunate enough to purchase a copy of Happy Birthday Robot at GenCon this year. I must say the thing I love about indie games is the diverse mechanics applied to specific games. They are always very focused and provide a unique feel for the game. They also create such inspiration to spin you in New directions.

HBR is a storytelling game where you write a story based on one phrase, as a default that phrase is Happy birthday Robot. There are dice mechanics that dictate how many words you get to write, AMD how many words your fellow players get to add to your sentance.

The beauty of the game, outside of its mechanics, is on the very last page. It is suggested that once you’re familiar with the game you create your own phrase to start the game.

This would be an amazing prop to not only tell whatever story you want, but to perhaps sketch out the draft for another rpg adventure!

Might I suggest: “It was the rescue of a lifetime”?
